About IHKR

By 2019, the wonderful Knabstrupper breed had reached such a popularity all over the world that adventurous breeders had begun experimenting by crossing the Knabstrupper with horses of breeds that were not “acceptable outcrosses” at Knabstrupperforeningen for Danmark (KNN), the registries of the European Union that register Knabstruppers, the North, Central and South American affiliates of the registries of the European Union that register Knabstruppers, or the American Knabstrupper Association.  And some breeders who owned a mare or stallion that, while otherwise eligible for Knabstrupper registry, found that either the time limit for registration had passed or the horse for some other reason did not get registered, leaving them without “papers."

These breeders began looking for alternative registration possibilities and became scattered throughout various registries where they were not recognized as Knabstrupper crosses. For example, those breeders who bred their Friesian mares to a Knabstrupper stallion, might find themselves having to register these horses with a registry that would designate them as “Friesian crosses.”

IHKR stepped in to fill this void and to gather all these various Knabstrupper crosses into their own registry where these breeders could have a cohesive group that could work together to for the purposes of pedigree tracking, education, recognition, marketing, and awards.
